Cultivating Peace, Fostering Healing, and Empowering Individuals.

About Amani

Amani Counseling & Co is your beacon of peace, a sanctuary founded on empathy, understanding, and a deep-seated respect for the human condition. Our name, "Amani," signifies "peace" in Swahili, reflecting our mission to help individuals find tranquility amid life's chaos, strength within vulnerability, and purpose from pain.

At the heart of Amani is Joi McGowan, M.A., LPC - our passionate founder. A licensed professional counselor with a rich educational background in psychology and mental health counseling, Joi's unwavering commitment to mental health support manifests in every aspect of our practice.

Born and raised in the Chicagoland area, Joi's practice is rooted in culture, theology, and empathy. She holds professional expertise in grief counseling, trauma-informed care, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, among others.

Joi believes that counseling and mental health support are for everyone, regardless of their cultural background. She is a tireless advocate for representation and continually works to rewrite narratives around mental health in minoritized communities.

Her dedication extends beyond the therapy room, contributing actively to the community as the secretary of the Northwest Arkansas NAACP Branch 60, co-founder of the Resilient Black Women, INC nonprofit, and co-host of the Resilient Black Women Podcast.

Join us at Amani Counseling & Co, where we foster dialogues on mental health, curate mental health-centric curriculums, and work tirelessly to make mental health care accessible and affordable.
